The flavours are of fully ripe Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay, ripe peaches and nectarine and the significant natural acid and grapefruit finish is poised against these ripe flavours. Tiers Chardonnay always has a refined but noticeable texture.
Light in colour, the Vat 6 Pinot Noir has a strawberry lift on the nose with stalk character from the whole bunch ferment adding complexity. The palate is delicate with bright berry fruit characters being the forerunner to the fine tannin structure. It is a wine that will age well in the medium term. This wine was fermented in small hand plunged open vats at Tyrrell's historic Ashman's winery. Partial carbonic maceration was achieved by leaving approximately 30% as whole bunches in the ferment. The wine was then matured in a range of new, one and two year old French barriques.
