Sommières is not an immediately recognisable wine region but if you think of it as half way between the towns of Montpellier and Nimes in the south of France you know that you are in long-established vineyard country. In the centre of the old medieval town are the cellars of the cooperative that makes this wine. Their vineyards cover 700 hectares around the townships of Sommières itself, Salinelles, Aspères, ampagne, Garrigues, Lecques and Fontanes and they pride themselves on their sustainable approach to viticulture. This is a editerranean climate with an average annual temperature of 14.5 degress (lucky them!). No problem to grow grapes but careful timing of the harvest ensures a natural freshness in the whites.
