Fine Tawny is aged for approximately three years in small barrels. This hastens the ageing process so that the wine evolves to a reddish amber colour and develops a silky feel and nutty flavour. Tawny Port is filtered before bottling and and is a smoother, mellower drink than its Ruby counterpart. Cockburn's Fine Tawny is produced from grapes grown in the Lower Douro, lighter skinned and perfectly suited for tawny wine. During its time in wood, Cockburn's Fine Tawny loses some of its colour and rich texture and acquires instead a classic nutty/butterscotch flavour. It has a smooth full flavour with a toffee nose. As a dessert wine, Fine Tawny pairs brilliantly with cream-based desserts such as cheesecake or creme brulee. It may also be enjoyed chilled, and served with almonds or pecans.

Each component of this Cape blend offers it's own qualities. This vintage shows an explosion of fruit on the nose which is largely attributable to the Cabernet sauvignon and Pinotage components. The Syrah is soft and sweet. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of the blend. Spicy stewed fruit and spicy ripe tannins with an innate softness and long lingering aftertaste. This blend brings the best of Pinotage to the classic French varieties and will age well for the next 15 years. Great served with rosemary marinated Lamb shank in buttered Polenta.

Appearance: Vibrant mid-weight purple. Nose: Sweet spices to start, but serious stuff behind - roasted meats, black pepper, dark plum, dark chocolate, young polished leather. Palate: Some pepper and other 'dark' spices on roasted meats to start. Dark, plummy fruits in the middle. Only medium bodied, but with plenty of fine, nutty tannins through the finish. Cellaring: Will reward cellaring to at least 2020 and quite likely well beyond.

The name Woodcutter's stems from David Powell's several years spent working the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack in the Torbreck forest. Like all wines in the Torbreck stable, the fruit is sourced from hand harvested and hand tended plots throughout the Northwestern Barossa Valley. It is fermented in our cement, wooden and stainless steel vats for 6-7 days and then basket pressed to well seasoned hogsheads and French oak foudres for 12 months. It is bottled without the use of either fining or filtration. This wine reflects the up & coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old vines which make up the core of our other cuvees. Dense, rich and opulent, this wine combines great fruit purity with texture, complexity and finesse. It is elegant, structured and powerful and is a fantastic introduction to the Torbreck range. Whilst offering immense pleasure in its...
