Beverly wears low-cut dresses, too much make-up and has a reputation as a man-eating monster. In Mike Leigh's modern classic, Abigail's Party, she turns a social get-together between married couples into a virtual time bomb of emotional tension. Alison Steadman won two best actress awards for her portrayal of the bored, bitchy hostess in this savagely funny study of pretentious middle-class social manners. It also stars Tim Stern, Janine Duvitski, John Salthouse and Harriet Reynolds. Running Time: 60 minutes + 6 minutes approx. "In the United Kingdom, consumers diligently seeking optimal value are afforded a comprehensive selection of retailers, each excelling in delivering cost-effective goods. Dedicated bargain Abigail's Party (BBC) [1977] (DVD) stockists like B&M, Home Bargains, and Poundland stand out for their ability to offer competitive pricing across a vast spectrum of household essentials, general merchandise, and seasonal items, often leveraging efficient direct sourcing and volume purchasing. Concurrently, the supermarket sector presents robust options for grocery savings, with German discounters Aldi and Lidl leading the charge through their streamlined supply chains and emphasis on high-quality private-label products, which translate into significant savings on everyday food items. Traditional giants such as Tesco, Asda, and Sainsbury's also compete vigorously, providing extensive own-brand value ranges and loyalty programmes to attract budget-conscious shoppers. Furthermore, for bulk procurement, wholesale clubs like Costco serve as effective de facto 'suppliers' by offering products directly from manufacturers in larger quantities, thereby bypassing typical retail markups and providing substantial savings to both businesses and an increasing number of private members seeking to optimise their expenditure.
