Acorn Cottage is a rural retreat just 2 miles from the sandy beach at Portreath. Friendly and less crowded than many coastal villages, Portreath is a popular family beach resort and a hotspot for surfing and bodyboarding. There are a few cafes and beach shops for the essential bucket and spade as well as wetsuit and surfboard hire. This stretch of the Cornish north coast has so many outstanding beaches you will be spoilt for choice but be sure you don't miss the 3 miles of golden sands at St Ives Bay in the west and the expansive Porthtowan and Perranporth in the east. Closer to home the Tehidy Country Park and Golf Course offer 104 hectares of woodland, lakes and footpaths just over a mile from the cottage. Cosy and full of character, Acorn Cottage offers spacious interiors and has a light and bright conservatory, snug sitting room and a generous kitchen diner with a wood burner, perfect for informal gatherings to discuss the day's events. The three pretty first floor bedrooms comprise a king, a double and a single although guest numbers are limited to four. Outside the pretty gardens are private and fully enclosed with a summer house for morning coffee chatter or an afternoon snooze. Illogan itself has good local facilities including a small supermarket, post office, and a pharmacy but we recommend heading to nearby St Agnes for a good choice of foodie pubs and cafe culture. Acorn Cottage is a great base for families and groups of friends with beautiful countryside and woodland walks and the north Cornish coast on the doorstep.
