An impenetrably deep purple.
Rich, clean-edged aromas of dark fruit, violets, and star anise.

Flavours of passion fruit and ripe mangoes with a long, clean mineral and zesty citrus finish. Grapes were hand harvested at 21-22 Celsius. After pressing, the must was settled maintaining the temperature at 12 - 14 Celsius. Fermentation occurred using a commercial yeast strain particularly suited to Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was kept on gross lees (yeast solids) for 6 months and stirred regularly to enhance mid- palate richness. The final wine was lightly fined and filtered into bottled.

Gevrey-Chambertin is a wine with a beautiful, bright ruby colour. Intensely fruity on the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, wild blackberry and liquorice. The woody character is subtle and marries delicately with the other aromas. As the wine evolves, there are more complex notes, such as mild spice, nutmeg and leather. Later still, mushroom and damp earth nuances make their appearance. Although present on the palate, tannin is never astringent but blends itself harmoniously with the natural freshness and 'gras' (velvety texture) of the wine. The same aromas encountered earlier on the nose are found again...

Excellent tawny colour gained through ageing in small oak barrels. The nose shows layers of mature fruit aromas, beautifully integrated with nuances of nuts and crystallized dried fruits. On the palate very smooth and mellow, with a well-balanced and long finish.
Smith Woodhouse's 10 Years Old Tawny is a perfect match to sweet pastries, such as apple pie with cinnamon. Taste slightly chilled to appreciate the full complexity and sensuous pleasure of this wine. An excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions. Will keep for some weeks after opening.
