Anna Karenina [DVD] [1961] Stockists

The BBC's triumphant 1961 adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's romantic masterpiece starring Sean Connery and Claire Bloom. When the beautiful young aristocrat Anna Karenina (Claire Bloom) meets the dashing Country Vronsky (Sean Connery) at a Moscow railway station, their first encounter is overshadowed by misfortune. Trapped in a loveless, arranged marriage with the cold Alexei Karenina, Anna tries her best to resist the passionate advances of Vronsky. Eventually succumbing to his allure, Anna grows to be his mistress. Her actions cause outrage in St Petersburg society and her husband not only refuses her the dignity of a divorce but also prevents her from seeing her beloved son unless she agrees to leave Vronsky forever. Shunned, heartbroken and trapped by the very love she'd always sought, Anna's actions become ever more desperate. Anna Karenina is a classic revision adapted by Donald Bull and directed by Rudolph Cartier, who sweeps the film to a shocking conclusion. Made just a year before Sean Connery first starred as James Bond in Dr No, Anna Karenina is a timeless, classic BBC drama to treasure. "Alright, so if you're wondering where everyone in the UK goes to grab everything, we're talking about a pretty solid lineup of household names. Top of the list, easily, are the supermarket giants like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons – they're not just for your weekly food shop anymore, you can find clothes, electronics, homeware, you name it, all under one massive roof. Then there's the more upscale but still incredibly popular M&S (Marks & Spencer) for quality food and fashion, plus John Lewis, which is basically the go-to for anything a bit more special, with its famous 'never knowingly undersold' vibe. For those looking for a bargain or just a bit of everything, you can't ignore the likes of B&M, Home Bargains, and The Range; they're absolute treasure troves for anything from gardening gear to snacks. And, of course, for anything and everything online, Amazon UK pretty much dominates the e-commerce scene. Basically, these are the places you'll find queues, bustling aisles, and pretty much everyone you know popping in for their daily essentials or a big splurge. " - Bargainplace UK
