This summer marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which was fought between July and October 1940. One of the turning points in World War Two, the brave air crew, of whom nearly 1500 died, who participated in the Battle undoubtedly helped prevent Germany from invading Britain. To help remember these courageous members of our Armed Forces, and the sacrifice they made, and to raise funds to support members, and their families, of the current Armed Forces, The Royal British Legion have teamed up with TMB Art Metal of London to create a very unique and stylish Necklace. One of the most symbolic planes of The Battle of Britain was the Spitfire, but, with so many destroyed, only 35 remain flying around the world today. Of these, Spitfire P7350, having survived the Battle of Britain complete with battle scars and bullet holes, is now the oldest, most original and historically significant airworthy Spitfire in existence. Recently the plane underwent restoration work, during which some of the original metal, duralumin, had to be removed. TMB Art Metal were able to obtain this metal to create what must be some of the worlds most unique necklace! Cast in the shape of a poppy, the design of which is based on a pressed poppy found in the World War One diary of Private Smith, each necklace is different, thanks to the age and character of the metal used. Whilst the silver coloured poppies themselves are made of historic Spitfire Duralumin metal, the backing plates they are mounted upon are of sterling silver, fitted with 18 diamond cut Belcher style silver chains. All necklaces are supplied in high quality wooden cases complete with illustrated certificates of provenance.
