Birmingham was last visited by these authors for a Past and Present" volume right back at the beginning of the series when they produced "No 5 The West Midlands" more than 20 years ago in 1987! It also fell within the Warwickshire volume of 2001 but this is the first time that the city's railways have been treated to a "Past and Present" volume of their own neatly complementing Andrew Doherty's "Rail Around Birmingham" series. This volume looks in detail at: Birmingham's principal stations: New Street Snow Hill and Moor Street; The Cross City Line from Barnt Green to Blake Street; Former LMS main line from Birmingham International to Sandwell & Dudley; Former GWR lines through Snow Hill some now forming part of the Midland Metro light rail network; The Camp Hill line; Loco sheds at Tyseley Monument Lane Aston and Saltley; Goods yards and industrial installations including the Cadbury's system; and The Harborne branch."
"Alright, if you're curious about where seemingly everyone in the UK gets their stuff, it's a pretty varied list, but some names just dominate the retail landscape! For your everyday groceries and household essentials, you're talking about the absolute titans like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons – they've got stores practically everywhere, and everyone's got their preferred one for the weekly shop. Then there's the massive rise of discount supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, which have become incredibly popular for snagging a bargain. When it comes to fashion, homeware, or just generally higher-end goods, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer are still huge, especially for quality and gifting. For more affordable fashion and home bits, Next and Primark are constantly buzzing, while Dunelm is a go-to for all things home. And for everything from DIY supplies to electronics, think B&Q, Screwfix, and Currys PC World. Plus, you can't forget Boots and Superdrug for all your health and beauty needs – they're practically on every high street! It really depends on what you're after, but these are definitely the household names everyone relies on. " - Bargainplace UK
