2016 was another unusually early and short harvest - almost exactly the same timing as 2015. But as is wonderfully the case with nature, the character of the 2016s is surprisingly different to the 2015s.
A tight, minerally wine with classic Hamilton Russell Vineyards length and complexity. Unusually prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality. An elegant, yet textured and intense wine with a strong personality of both place and vintage.

Appearance: Vibrant mid-weight purple.
Nose: Sweet spices to start, but serious stuff behind - roasted meats, black pepper, dark plum, dark chocolate, young polished leather.
Palate: Some pepper and other 'dark' spices on roasted meats to start. Dark, plummy fruits in the middle. Only medium bodied, but with plenty of fine, nutty tannins through the finish.
Cellaring: Will reward cellaring to at least 2020 and quite likely well beyond.

A wonderfully rich, concentrated wine with great flavour and texture. The opulent black fruit nose is followed through on the palate: layers of intense berry, plum and cherry fruit flavours are supported by firm, but well integrated tannins. Deliciously textured; velvety, smooth. Succulent, rounded, plump. A lovely rich prolonged finish.
Best served on its own or at the end of a meal with cheese. Bottled for immediate drinking and no need to decant.

Concentrated and complex nose with lovely ripe, intense fruit of black cherry and plums. Fine French oak adds a toasty, smoky aroma. The palate is full, plush and concentrated with great poise and velvety tannins. It has a long, persistent finish. Very complex in quite full-on style that splits the difference between, say, Mornington and Russian River Valley. Great sweetness. Spicy and flattering - quite long. 17/20. - Jancis Robinson MW. Perfect to accompany all types of game, especially pigeon, duck or quail. Shows very well with a wild mushroom and boar risotto or mature, veined cheeses. 100% Pinot Noir.

Formerly known as Harveys Club Classic. Amontillado is a rich amber colour, medium bodied and either dry or slightly sweet, depending on the style of the producer. Serve Amontillado lightly chilled with nuts or soups. To create Amontillado, a mature Fino is allowed to lose its flor, either by not replenishing or by a secondary fortification. Now exposed to air, the pale Fino then oxidizes into a nutty, richer, amber coloured sherry as it is further aged in cask.
