Wild clematis are native to China, and the first garden types were created in Japan. Clematis 'Ashva' is a late flowering clematis that flowers from July to September. It has violet-purple blooms with distinctive mauve red bars along the length of each sepal. It thrives in a sunny spot, and can be grown in a trellis or obelisk container, or up against a wall or fence.
