Spiga contains only one grape variety, Tempranillo. The age of vines range from 20+ - 50+ years and are at an altitude of 700 m.
Due to the poor soil and the age of the vineyards, only 1 bottle produce is produced per vine.

Highly aromatic with black fruit and ripe sloe notes. Very mineral that, together with the vanilla, spice and tobacco notes from the barrel, give a great character to this wine. The Tempranillo variety is very emphasized and well incorporated with the barrel. Oily, rich and intense with a sweetness right across the mouth, showing great finesse. Well-balanced acidity with the alcohol, with the typical Valpiedra freshness predominant. A long, cool and mineral finish, with a touch of fine woods.

These are the youngest of all the Dow's wood-aged Ports, having been aged on average 3 years in oak casks. These wines are carefully made from the finest grapes in the Douro valley. During the ageing process, the wines are tasted regularly and, when they are considered to be ready, they are blended with all the care of a premium quality Port, but are bottled when ready for immediate consumption. The result is a range of Ports with the fine balance and flavour, worthy of the Dow's name.

Ruby red in colour, with purplish-blue highlight.
The nose exhibits fragrant fruit with prominent notes of cherries, echoed by fresher hints of pepper and aromatic herbs, typical of Corvina and Corvinone, the historic varietals of this appellation.
Whilst young it is impressively lively and playful on the palate whereas some two years on it expresses greater delicacy and finesse.
This type of Valpolicella is the perfect accompaniment to Italian antipasti, soups, pasta dishes and other dishes typical of Mediterranean cuisine.
Also pairs well with roasted and grilled white meats and is ideal as a summer red to drink...
