Rock Hudson stars as Captain Turner, leading a detachment of US Army paratrooper saboteurs dropped behind the German lines in Italy. Its mission is to blow up a strategic dam. However, the unit is ambushed and only Turner survives. He is picked up by a ragtag group of local youths who, realising that he needs medical attention, kidnap German doctor Bianca Freedling (Sylva Koscina) to nurse him to health, keeping her captive even after Turner s recovery. Once fit, the youths strike a bargain with him - they will help him blow the dam if he will help them get revenge on cruel SS officer Sturmbannfá¼hrer Taussig and the Germans, who destroyed their village and murdered their parents.
