The Impulse is a gorgeous looking keyboard controller that has all the controls you need to rock a studio session or any world stage. With 25 note velocity sensitive piano style keyboard with assignable aftertouch, 8 multi-colour large backlit velocity sensitive drum pads, 8 endless encoders, 1 slider, Transport controls (Play rec stop loop etc) and deep under the hood capabilities the Impulse is everything the modern musician or producer needs in a MIDI controller keyboard. Keys The keyboard on the Impulse feel fantastic, it s a velocity sensitive piano style keyboard with assignable aftertouch. Its got full sized keys that are solid and don t feel cheaply made. They are very expressive but you can mess velocity curve in the software. These keys are extremely playable and are actually as good as the hype. Control it all with Encoders, Pads and more The Impulse is made for musicians who need to play and tweak live or producers who are looking for a central all in one go to station to look after sessions. With 1 fader you can get very hands on with your mixer. A lovely bank of 8 Endless encoders, using the Automap software provided means you can assign these to important synth parameters for on the spot tweaking and changes. Again these can be assigned to different parameters inside your DAW such as something as useful as pan knobs. Having transport controls right on deck means you don t need to be looking at your computer or reaching for that mouse. Do it all while still keeping the flow of the music uninterrupted. 8 velocity sensitive pads that also double as multicoloured clip launchers in Ableton. These pads have a great feel and a re very punchy. Of course the velocity can be changed within the software to customize your finger drumming style. There is also a roll button for fills and a built in arpegiator which can be great for coming with new patterns whether for drums or instruments like synths. Customize under the hood The ability to work with different DAWS is a huge positive with the Impulse, it comes with a bunch of templates for major DAWs and some plugins so you can get started straight away. For the more geeky inclined you can set up zones so certain keys trigger different instruments as well as change midi channels and even perform a sysex dump. Automap Included is the Automap software which makes using all your different 3rd party plugins and daws much easier and a whole lot simpler. It gives you instant access to your DAWs mixer and transport controls. It also allows you to change mappings and adjust to your liking all with a GUI that actually makes sense in the real world. Connections Impulse is USB powered and has no need for a power supply, so great for travelling with a laptop but it also has MIDI in and MIDI out ports for interfacing with external hardware like synths.
