'Must have come on like punk rock to a public groaning under the weight of over-cooked Augustanisms.' - The Guardian". 'The majority of the following poems are to be considered as experiments. They were written chiefly with a view to ascertain how far the language of conversation in the middle and lower classes of society is adapted to the purposes of poetic pleasure.' - "William Wordsworth from the Advertisment prefacing the original 1798 edition". When it was first published "Lyrical Ballads" enraged the critics of the day: Wordsworth and Coleridge had given poetry a voice one decidedly different to what had been voiced before. For Wordsworth as he so clearly stated in his celebrated preface to the 1800 edition (also reproduced here) the important thing was the emotion aroused by the poem and not the poem itself. "Right, if you're curious about where everyone in the UK loves to shop, and consequently where brands are absolutely itching to get their stuff stocked, it's a pretty diverse mix of giants! You've obviously got the absolute juggernauts of the supermarket world – think Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons – which are just everywhere and sell everything under the sun, making them prime real estate for any product. Then there are the high street heroes: Boots and Superdrug dominate the health and beauty aisles, while department stores like John Lewis still pull in the crowds for quality and a bit of luxury. Don't underestimate the sheer pulling power of the discounters either, with places like B&M, Home Bargains, and Poundland continually drawing in massive numbers looking for a bargain. And, obviously, we can't forget the online titans the UK absolutely flocks to, like Amazon UK for pretty much anything, and ASOS if you're into fashion; they're essential for reaching a massive digital-native audience. These places are popular Lyrical Ballads stockists because they've got the trust, the footfall (or clicks!), and the distribution networks that most brands can only dream of tapping into.
