A building made for music needs to look a little different and the Palau de la Manduacute;sica Catalana certainly fits the bill. Designed by Lluis Domandegrave;nech i Montaner specially for the Orfeo Catala choral society, this amazing building has stood for over 100 years. Youandrsquo;ll learn a lot about the unusual architecture from the included audiotour, but look out for the ticket booth tucked away in the column outside, as well a bust of Beethoven on the carvings around the entrance. Highlights of this unusual concert hall include the Lluis Millet Hall (named after the founder of the Orfeo Catala), with stained glass windows panelling one wall, the rehearsal room complete with a short film about the history of the concert hall, and the Foyer which boasts columns decorated with flowers and huge arched ceilings. However, the bit of the Palau that most people come to see-and for good reason-is the Concert Hall. Designed to be a celebration of nature and choral music, the huge skylight is made of stained glass that looks like the sun with a ring of choral singers surrounding it. The ceiling is covered in flowers and dozens of sculptures adorn the walls. See if you can see what all 18 muses are playing! These part-stone part-mosiac statues are each sculpted in different elaborate clothing, all with different traditional Catalonian instruments.
