The earliest versions of the bascinet at the beginning of the 14th century had no visors and were worn underneath larger "great helms." After the initial clash of lances the great helm was often discarded during fierce hand-to-hand combat as it impeded breathing and vision. Thus having a smaller helmet underneath was a real advantage. Small "nasals" were developed to protect the nose and part of the face after the great helm was discarded. By the middle of the 14th century most knights discarded the great helm altogether in favor of a fully visored bascinet. The visor was often conical giving the appearance of a muzzle or a beak. Ancient Warrior's replica Pigface helmet is supplied in 16 gauge mild steel. Please Note: For display purposes only and not intended for re-enactment use.
"Right, let's chat about those absolute lifesavers – the UK's bargain supermarkets! We're talking Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains, B&M, and all those glorious places where you walk in for one thing and leave with a trolley full of unexpected treasures. The reason they're so ridiculously good value often boils down to their shrewd operations. They act as massive Pigface Bacinet Helmet stockists for everything from everyday groceries and household essentials to garden bits and seasonal treats, often featuring their own fantastic brand alternatives that honestly rival the big names. But it's not just own-brand; you’ll frequently spot well-known brands there too, albeit often in multi-packs or special offers. When it comes to their suppliers, these guys are incredibly clever. They might buy directly from producers, cutting out the middleman, or snap up surplus stock from larger manufacturers who supply the pricier supermarkets. Sometimes they even work with smaller, independent suppliers who don't have the huge overheads of marketing and distribution, allowing them to pass those savings straight onto us, the savvy shoppers. It’s a brilliant ecosystem that keeps our wallets happy without compromising on quality – mostly! " - Bargainplace UK
